Discussion regarding proposed modifications of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan by amending the Master Transportation Plan as an element of the overall comprehensive plan.
Summary
Over the past two years, the City has been working to update the Master Transportation Plan to further the development of transportation improvements within the City as well as its ETJ. The proposed update to the Master Transportation Plan is intended to build upon the existing transportation element of the comprehensive plan to enable to the City to address all facets of growth and development and develop a transportation plan that includes recommended roadway improvements for the city and its ETJ through the year 2035.
Background
During the past 18 months, Brown and Gay Engineering Inc., assisted by Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc., have been aiding the City in creating a Master Transportation Plan update. The City's Master Transportation Plan is being updated to aid addressing transportation elements of a growing city and will provide guidance for the City's transportation needs through 2035.
Planning and Zoning Commission Recommendation
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously (6-0) to approve the update to the Master Transportation plan on April 6, 2015.
Projected Future City Council Action
A public hearing and consideration of the ordinance on first reading is scheduled on the April 28, 2015 regular City Council meeting agenda. Second reading of the ordinance is currently anticipated for May 12, 2015.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends approval of the Master Transportation Plan as prepared by Brown and Gay Engineering Inc, and inclusion of this element into the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
