Approving a contract with fun abounds, Inc. in the amount of $273,330.00 to provide playground replacement and park improvements at Geneva’s Park, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
Current playground in Geneva’s Park is 21 years old and was built in 2001. It’s one of the oldest in our park system. The industry standard for playground replacement is 15 years. Parks and recreation staff will be replacing the current playground equipment and shade but also improving the park offering by adding an electronic, Inclusive ADA (The Americans with Disabilities Act) accessible play amenity, an 850 linear foot concrete trail loop around the park property and small picnic shelter with solar lighting for community residents to use for small parties and other gatherings.
The new proposed playground structure is classified as a 5-12 amenity structure, but has elements for younger kids; for example, the pinball/piston ring panel, the arched climber, and crescent drum panel.
The Current shade fabric will be replaced with a new one, but the existing frame will stay in its current condition. The vendor will power wash and clean the posts before the new shade is added.
Funding for this park improvement, will be Parkland Dedication Funds from the Star Ranch Apartment Development. The Geneva Park playground equipment was anticipated to be replaced in next fiscal year’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects. This will bump the next playground up on the list for replacement expediting the process of replacing the older playgrounds in our inventory.
