Discuss and consider action to award a construction contract for the North Travis County MUD #5 (NTCMUD#5) Water Distribution project to Prota Construction of Austin, Texas, the lowest responsive bidder of 11 bids received on March 20, 2015, in the amount of $2,024,301.
Summary
The NTCMUD#5 water project will construct approximately 6,883 linear feet (LF) of 24" water main, 710 LF of 16" water main, 100 LF of 12" water main and 1,550 LF of 8" water main along portions of Pflugerville Parkway, Wilke Ridge Lane, Heatherwilde Blvd. and in the Royal Pointe subdivision. This project will provide secondary water connections and allow for increased capacity for existing and proposed development. When completed, this project, in conjunction with a series of projects in coordination with Manville WSC, will void the NTCMUD#5 water service agreement and allow the City to be the wholesale and retail water service provider for the affected area. The construction of this entire project is anticipated to take 180 days.
The attached NTCMUD#5 Tabulation of Bids includes the base bid values in which the low bidder was Prota Construction. The bid received is within the estimated budget.
Status
The project was advertised for bids on February 25, 2015. Eleven bids (11) were received and opened on March 20, 2015.
Fiscal Impact
This project is funded through the utility fund portion of the 2014 certificates of obligation.
Staff Recommendation
City staff recommends awarding the contract for the North Travis County MUD #5 (NTCMUD#5) Water Distribution project to the lowest responsive bidder, Prota Construction of Austin, Texas, in the amount of $2,024,301.
