Title
Purchase for vegetation management services associated with the City's parks, trails, and natural areas by Goatscaping, LLC in the amount of $70,000.
Summary
This item considers approval of vegetation management services utilizing targeted goat grazing as an environmentally responsible approach to controlling invasive vegetation, reducing overgrowth, and improving the health and accessibility of city-maintained parks, trails, and natural areas.
The project will provide vegetation management across approximately 100 acres at Bohls Park/Pecan St Trail Corridor, Gilleland Creek Park, Murchison Park, Pfennig Park, Kuempel Park, Windermere Park, and Carmel Trails near 1849 Park. Goat grazing is an effective alternative to traditional mechanical clearing and herbicide application, particularly in environmentally sensitive areas, steep slopes, and difficult-to-access terrain. In addition to reducing invasive and nuisance vegetation, this method minimizes soil disturbance, naturally fertilizes the landscape, and creates conditions that support the restoration of native plant communities.
The City has successfully partnered with Goatscaping, LLC on previous vegetation management projects, demonstrating the effectiveness of this approach while reducing maintenance impacts and improving the long-term health of natural areas. This work also supports the City's Rewild Pflugerville initiative by helping prepare restoration areas, improving ecological function, and promoting sustainable land management practices throughout the park system.
While the winter goatscaping was cancelled during the FY26 budgeting process, funding was budgeted for the regular summer goatscaping.
This initiative supports the City's commitment to sustainable park stewardship, enhances the safety and usability of parks and trails, and improves the ecological health and resilience of the park system.
