Title
Approving the purchase of vegetation management by Goatscaping, LLC in the amount of $72,900, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
This item is for the approval of vegetation management services utilizing goat grazing as an environmentally friendly approach to controlling overgrowth and enhancing fire mitigation across city-maintained open spaces. This project will provide targeted vegetation control across approximately 130 acres, including areas of Wilbarger Creek Park, sections of the Heritage Loop (Gilleland Creek) Trail from Grand Avenue to Bohls Park and Pecan Street, and segments around Murchison Park.
The City has partnered with Goatscaping, LLC on previous projects which proved both effective and efficient in reducing unwanted plant growth, particularly invasive and nonnative species, without the use of mechanical equipment or herbicides. Goat vegetation management offers the added benefits of minimal soil compaction, natural fertilization, and improved accessibility in difficult-to-reach terrain.
Funding for this project is allocated from the Trail Maintenance and Repair line item in the FY25 General Fund budget.
This initiative supports the City Council’s Strategic Goal to provide sustainable and resilient infrastructure and aligns with the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Master Plan by promoting environmentally responsible maintenance practices throughout the trail and parks system.
