Title
Approving the purchase and installation of ADA trail and accessibility improvements at Gilleland Creek Park, located at 700 N Railroad, in the amount of $496,974.10, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
This item is for the approval of trail and accessibility upgrades connected to the ongoing renovation of the Gilleland Creek Park Playground (700 N Railroad). This phase of the project includes installation of over 8,800 square feet of concrete trail, 600 square feet of composite boardwalk to preserve existing tree roots of Big Shady, the largest Pecan Tree in Travis County, drainage improvements, concrete curbing, and grading enhancements to improve both access and stormwater management. Additionally, new site amenities-including accessible picnic tables, benches, and trash receptacles-will be added to improve user experience and inclusivity.

A Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR) study was approved by City Council in June 2024 and completed in April 2025, allowing construction to move forward. The upgraded play area received an $82,073.90 grant from Gametime and has been designated as a National Demonstration Site, showcasing innovative and inclusive design for public play environments.
These enhancements are designed to increase walkability, ensure ADA compliance, and create a safer and more welcoming park environment for families and individuals of all abilities. The trail connections also improve access between the playground, pavilion, and adjacent park amenities.
The work will be completed by Cunningham Recreation through BuyBoard Contract #679-22. This project is budgeted as part of the Annual Trail Improvem...
