Discuss and consider action regarding event funding for American Legion Memorial Day event.
Summary
City Council approved the City of Pflugerville Special Events Policy on November 29, 2022. Section 16 of the Special Events Policy states requests for City subsidy of an event that serves Pflugerville’s diverse population in a community-oriented environment may be considered on a case-by-case basis by the City Manager’s Office. The City Manager or their designee, may consider providing a subsidy for an event up to the amount established in the annual budget. For subsidy requests over the annual budgeted amount will require review and approval by the City Council. Additionally, the stage rental policy limits the use of the stage on city observed holiday dates and city event dates.
The Memorial Day event planned by the American Legion is not currently a budgeted event and as such requires approval by City Council. The American Legion has requested the use of the stage on May 29, 2023 and waiver of the non-profit fee of $750.
Options for City Council to discuss and consider:
1. Fund the subsidy request in the amount of $750 and allow for use of the stage on a city observed holiday
2. Fund a different amount and allow for use of the stage on a city observed holiday
3. Decline the subsidy request.
