Title
Proclamation declaring May 15 to May 21, 2016 as National Public Works Week in the City of Pflugerville.
Summary
National Public Works Week is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. National Public Works Week is observed each year during the third full week of May to raise the public's awareness of public works issues and to increase confidence in public works employees who are dedicated to improving the quality of life for present and future generations.
This year’s theme "Public Works Always There" speaks to the essential nature of Public Works services in support of everyday quality of life.
One example of Public Works’ stewardship of the environment and enhancing the quality of life for our citizens is the City’s Annual Clean Up Day and recycling efforts. This year’s Clean Up Day was held on Saturday, April 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Residents were able to dispose of unwanted items such as tires, brush and tree limbs, electronics, furniture, household trash, latex paint, vehicle batteries, paper/cardboard/plastics, used motor oil and filters, and scrap metal. Over 395 residents participated in the event and 46 tons of unwanted materials were collected during the event.
In recognition of National Public Works Week, the City of Pflugerville will host a Public Works Open House on Friday, May 13, 2016 at the City of Pflugerville Central Wastewater Treatment Plant, 15500 Sun Light Near Way #B, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Citizens will have an opportunity to tour the facilities and learn more about the responsibilities of the Public Works Department.
