Summary
The Central Wastewater Treatment Plant has 2 centrifuges that run consistently with the flows that the treatment facility experiences. These units need to be sent out for a re-balance and repair and this needs to take place in New Jersey where the manufacturer is. Given the flow that the plant is currently experiencing and the anticipated continual increase, we can not afford to be down a centrifuge. These centrifuges are the primary means of dewatering the solids that are created as part of the wastewater treatment process. This purchase is to have a spare rotating assembly on the shelf for when we need to send a unit out for service to ensure the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant continues to operate as smoothly as possible regarding its solids handling.
The funds for this assembly were approved as part of the FY2021 budget as a capital outlay item for the Wastewater Treatment Department.
