Presentation on the partnership between City of Pflugerville water conservation staff and the Girl Scouts of Central Texas to encourage water conservation.

Summary

The city of Pflugerville water conservation staff partnered with the Girl Scouts of Central Texas to create the water conservation patch for water conservation. The patch can be used as a tool to educate girl scout participants on the importance of water as a valuable resource and how to conserve it. The patch is available to all girl scouts in the 46 counties of the Central Texas region.

The patch specifications and requirements were designed and coordinated by city staff and sent for approval to the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. Since August is Girl Scouts of Central Texas conservation month, launching the patch in August provided the perfect opportunity to announce the patch and explain conservation during one of Texas’ driest months. The patch program has various tiers and requirements based on age for the girls to complete from kindergarten to 12th grade. The girls observe, connect and take action to help with water conservation. Depending on grade level, the girls are asked to tour a water plant or observe a local water supply, brainstorm activities to conserve, and take action to get the message out to their family and friends.

With a better understanding of a city’s water supply system, the City of Pflugerville water conservation staff is optimistic that young people will be motivated to take care of water resources and make conservation a way of life. The importance of water conservation will be learned by girl scouts participating in one of 48 active troops consisting of 392 girls in Pflugerville and 46 Central Texas counties.

Pflugerville is proud to present the patches to the first Pflugerville Girl Scout troop to complete the program.
