Title

Discuss and consider action to approve a resolution canceling the General Election for November 7, 2023 and electing the candidates without opposition for the positions of Councilmember Place 2, Place 4, and Place 6.

Summary

At their meeting on August 8, 2023, the City Council ordered a General Election to be held on November 7, 2023 for the election of Councilmember Place 2, Place 4, and Place 6. The filing deadline for candidates was August 21, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. and the deadline to declare write-in candidacy was August 25, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.  Ceasar Ruiz is the unopposed candidate for Councilmember Place 2, Rudy Metayer is the unopposed candidate for Councilmember Place 4, and David Rogers is the unopposed candidate for Councilmember Place 6.  There were no write-in candidates. The certification of unopposed status was distributed to the City Council on August 28, 2023.  Approval of the attached resolution will officially cancel the election and elect the unopposed candidates.  The unopposed candidates will take the oath of office for these terms following November 7, 2023 in the same manner as if the election was held.

The supplemental agenda which was posted in Spanish is also attached.

Deadline for City Council Action

Action is requested on August 12, 2023.

Fiscal Impact

The City of Pflugerville will still hold a special charter amendment election on November 7, 2023, so election costs will be relatively the same.  There will be some savings as the City will not need to publish a notice of general election.
