Title

Discuss and consider action to approve the award of a construction contract for the Carmel Wastewater Interceptor Phase 1 project to Central Road & Utility, LTD, the lowest responsible bidder of ten (10) bids received on September 29, 2016, in the amount of $2,208,375.50 and authorizing the City Manager to execute same.

 

Summary

The Carmel Interceptor Phase 1 project will convey wastewater flows from the new PISD high school on Weiss Lane to the new Carmel/Sorento Lift Station The project will be in service by the middle of 2017 to meet testing requirements. The project includes approximately 9,280 total linear feet of 12-inch, 21-inch, and 24-inch PVC pipe, 650 linear feet of jacking or boring 42-inch steel casing, 38 manholes and other appurtenances.

 

K. Friese, the project’s design engineer, completed design work for this project in August.

 

The attached bid tabulation includes the bid values in which the low bidder was $2,208,375.50. The estimated cost of this project was $3,988,693.

 

Mean average for the bids was $2,890,463.27.

 

Status

The project was advertised for bids on September 14, 2016.  Ten (10) bids were received and opened on September 29, 2016.

 

Fiscal Impact

Funding for this project is included in the approved Utility Fund Capital Improvement Program utilizing existing bond funds.

Staff Recommendation

Staff recommends awarding the construction contract for the Carmel Wastewater Interceptor Phase 1 project to the lowest responsible bidder, Central Road & Utility, LTD, in the amount of $2,208,375.50.
