Title

Approving a resolution of the City of Pflugerville re-establishing parks & recreation fees and amending them to incorporate veteran & active duty military fee categories and to increase non-resident membership fees for the Senior Center and rental fees for the Green Red Barn.

Summary

This item has been included on the agenda to allow for presentation, discussion and possible action to re-establish parks & recreation fees and to amend them to incorporate veteran & active duty military fee categories and to increase non-resident membership fees for the Senior Center and rental fees for the Green Red Barn.

At the request of one of the Parks & Recreation Commission members, the Parks & Recreation Department conducted a brief survey of area municipalities to see what types of discounts they offer for veterans & active duty military.  While several cities do, many do not offer discounts.  This information was presented to the Parks & Recreation Commission at its April 21, 2016 Meeting and the Commission recommended the following:

-- Create a Recreation Center membership category for the individual veteran or active duty military at the equivalent of the current senior rates.

-- A "Free Week" at the Recreation Center for active duty military members that are currently on-leave.

-- Create a category for pool entrance fees, winter punch cards and season passes for the individual veteran or active duty military at the equivalent of the current senior rates.

-- Free entrance at any of our swimming pools on Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day.

These items have no effect on departmental expenditures and any effect on revenues will be negligible.

Staff also undertook a review and comparison of other fees for facilities and programs and is proposing the following additional changes to the fee structure:

-- An increase in non-resident senior center membership fees from $5 per year per individual to $10 per year and $7 per year per couple to $15 per year.

-- An increase in rental rates for the Green Red Barn from resident rate of $125 per day to $250 per day and non-resident rate of $150 per day to $300 per day.
