Discuss and consider action to award a construction contract for the Pigeon Forge and Lynn Cove Street Reconstruction Project to Alpha Paving Industries, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder of five (5) bids received on June 15, 2017, in the amount of $109,946.00 and authorizing the City Manager to execute same.
Summary
This project includes approximately one thousand one hundred fifty (1,150) square yards of street reconstruction, including replacement of four (4) driveway aprons, three hundred and fifty (350) linear feet concrete curb and gutter, concrete sidewalk and manhole adjustments.
The Wallace Group (CP&Y), the project’s design consultant, completed design work for this project in May 2017.
The attached bid tabulation show the bids in which the low base bid amount was $112,592.00 and the base bid with Alternate No. 1 was $109,946.00. Alternate No. 1 substituted an asphalt valley gutter instead of a concrete one. The estimated cost of this project was $213,000.00.
Mean average for the bids was $142,414.80.
Status
The project was advertised for bids on May 31, 2017. Five (5) bids were received and opened on June 15, 2017.
Fiscal Impact
Funding for this project is in the fiscal year 2017 overlay operating account in the Street Department in the General Fund.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends awarding the construction contract for the Pigeon Forge and Lynn Cove Street Reconstruction Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Alpha Paving Industries, Inc., in the amount of $109,946.00 .
