Discuss and consider action to award a construction contract for the Grand Avenue Parkway Pavement Repair Project to Austin Materials, the lowest responsible bidder of five (5) bids received on September 12, 2017, in the amount of $1,162,313.99 and authorizing the City Manager to execute same.
Summary
This project includes in-place pavement recycling with cement stabilization, full depth repairs, mill and overlay and pavement markings along Grand Avenue Parkway from the city limits to Pflugerville Parkway. An add alternate was also included for a 2" Mill and Overlay and Restriping of a portion of Kingston Lacy near Heatherwilde Blvd.
HVJ Associates, the project’s design consultant, completed design work for this project in August 2017.
The attached bid tabulation shows the bids in which Austin Materials was the low bidder for the base bid ($1,073,213.99) and an add alternate ($89,100) at a total of $1,162,313.99.
The engineer’s estimated cost of this project was $1,307,855 including $1,221,105 for the base bid and $86,750 for the add alternate.
Status
The project was advertised for bids on August 23, 2017. Five (5) bids were received and opened on September 12, 2017.
Fiscal Impact
Funding for this project is from the Street Overlay budget line item in the General Fund operations and maintenance budget.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends awarding the construction contract for the Grand Avenue Parkway Pavement Repair Project to the lowest responsible bidder, Austin Materials, in the amount of $1,162,313.99 to include the base bid and add alternate.
