Approving the award of a construction contract for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of New Meister Lane and Heatherwilde Blvd. to Austin Traffic Signal Construction Company, Inc., the lowest responsible bidder of one (1) bid received on December 1, 2017, in the amount of $216,604.35 and authorizing the City Manager to execute same.
Summary
This project includes construction of a new traffic signal at the intersection of New Meister Lane and Heatherwilde Blvd. The need for the signal was identified in the Living Spaces traffic impact analysis and the intersection currently meets signal warrants.
Kimley-Horn, the project’s design consultant, completed design work for this project in November 2017.
An Add Alternate No.1 was included to install all signal features to control the east leg of the intersection for a future driveway to the 45/Heatherwilde development that is anticipated to receive a site development permit in January 2018. The developer and property owner of the 45/Heatherwilde development, Live Oak Real Estate Development, Brokerage and Services, has committed to reimbursing the City for the total cost of the Add Alternate.
As shown on the attached bid tabulation, Austin Traffic Signal Construction Company, Inc. was the only bidder with a base bid of $197,787.35 and an Add Alternate bid of $18,817.00, total bid of $216,604.35. The engineer’s estimated cost for base bid and Add Alternate No. 1 were $282,921 and $34,172, respectively, for a total bid of $317,093. Recent bids received for the Traffic Signals and Intersection Improvements at Grand Avenue Parkway and Black Locust and Heatherwilde Blvd. and Cheyenne Valley Dr. were used for the engineer's estimate.
Status
The project was advertised for bids on November 15, 2017. One (1) bid was received and opened on December 1, 2017.
