Approving the appointment of Mr. Robert Polanco as Building Official.
Summary
Staff recommends Mr. Robert Polanco as the City's next Building Official. Section 4.06 of the City's Charter provides that the City Manager shall appoint the head of each administrative department, subject to the approval of the City Council. The Building Official is the department head for the Building Inspections Department and supervises four inspectors and two administrative staff members, in addition to contract administration associated with staff for building inspections and health inspections.
Status
Mr. Polanco interviewed with the staff in December. He became a Certified Building Official (CBO) in 2013, has various other certifications via the International Code Council, and is currently the Building Official / Code Compliance Officer with the City of Alpine, Texas where he has been employed since 2009. As a native of Alpine, he served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, and obtained a BS and MS in English from Sul Ross State University. In addition, Mr. Polanco has experience in the trades and as a high school English Teacher in the Marfa Independent School District. The requisite background and reference checks have also been completed.
Fiscal Impact
There is no additional impact to the FY 2018 budget.
