Discuss and consider action to appoint a City Councilmember to serve on the Community Advancement Network (CAN) board of directors.
Summary
Community Advancement Network (CAN) is a partnership of government, non-profit, private and faith-based organizations who work together to enhance the social, health, educational and economic well-being of Central Texas. CAN provides a unique, collaborative forum to enhance awareness of issues, strengthen partnerships, connect efforts across issue areas, and facilitate development of collaborative strategies. The City of Pflugerville participates in CAN and has one councilmember serve on the CAN board of directors.
The CAN board of directors serves with the following duties:
Support the organization’s vision, mission, and purpose.
Approve the strategic direction of the organization and ensure effective organizational planning to achieve the CAN mission.
Select the Executive Director and support the Executive Director in fulfilling the CAN mission and role.
Approve the CAN budget, provide financial oversight and ensure there are adequate resources to implement the CAN mission.
Determine, monitor, and strengthen organizational programs and services.
Enhance the organization’s public standing.
Ensure legal and ethical integrity and maintain accountability.

Councilmember Mike Heath was appointed on November 24, 2015 to serve on the CAN board of directors.

Fiscal Impact
The City of Pflugerville contributes $500.00 each year to CAN.
