Executive Session Item: Discussion of personnel matters pursuant to Chapter 551.074 of the Texas Government Code regarding the search and selection of a Municipal Judge and the interim process to include interview of potential Municipal Judge candidate(s). 2.) Open Session Item: Discuss and consider action to appoint a Municipal Judge.

 

Summary

After 42 years of service, Municipal Judge J.B. Marshall has announced his resignation effective February 28, 2018. Please find the attached letter of resignation.

 

On February 13, 2018, the City Council appointed the Associate Municipal Judge, Caroline Davis, as the Interim Municipal Judge.

 

This item has been included on the worksession agenda to allow for discussion and on the regular meeting agenda to allow for discussion and potential action. The City Council is expected to retire to executive session on the item for discussion of personnel matters pursuant to Chapter 551.074 of the Texas Government Code.  No action will be taken will be taken at the worksession.  Action, if any, will be taken in open session at the regular meeting.

 

Section 4.02(b) of the City Charter provides that: The city council shall appoint a municipal judge, who shall be an attorney licensed to practice law in Texas and a resident of the City, and shall fix the compensation for that office. The city council, in its discretion, may appoint additional associate municipal judges, who shall not be required to be attorneys. All municipal judges shall serve at the will of the council and shall receive compensation fixed by the city council.
