Title

Discuss and consider action for the use of Facebook Live during City Council meetings.

Summary

The city operates a public access channel on PfTV that live streams the City Council meetings on Uverse Channel 99 and Suddenlink Channel 17. The City has the capability to stream the meeting out to Facebook via social media upon request. Staff have discussed with other Central Texas cities including Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Austin, Leander, Hutto, Taylor and Temple, and none of our neighboring cities stream their Council meetings on Facebook. Concerns have included management of the stream and the expectation to respond to resident comments and questions during the meeting. Neighboring cities stream on their public access channels or city website similarly to the City of Pflugerville.  Some cities post a Facebook post that their council meeting is beginning and link to their city website, similar to Pflugerville's live web link on www.pflugervilletx.gov/pftv which does not have a comments section. This item is on the agenda to discuss if Council desires the implementation of a Facebook LIVE feed and the management of resident questions pertaining to City Council stream.
