Summary
Audrey Dearing, Vernagene Mott, Lois Shrout and Pam Stephenson are presenting their new book, Images of Modern America: Pflugerville, to the City Council. The Henry Pfluger Sr. family emigrated from Germany, eventually homesteading on the Blackland Prairie northeast of Austin in the early 1850s. As families grew and more people settled in the area, a post office named Pflugerville was established in 1893. By 1965, the century-old agricultural community was ready to incorporate. From that point, it has grown from a city of a few hundred residents to one of the fastest growing areas in the country. To track this transition over the past 50 years, this book chronicles the extraordinary growth of the population, schools, services, events, robust business centers, and spirit of volunteerism. Preserving the quality of life in Pflugerville has always been a common goal of the community. A book signing will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pflugerville Public Library.

This is the fourth publication that has been written and edited by Pflugerville residents. The first book, Pflugerville: A Heritage to Remember was published in 2007 and was a compilation of stories about life in Pflugerville from 1920 through early 1960. The Friends of the Pflugerville Library partnered with Heritage House Partners, the City of Pflugerville, Pflugerville Public Library, and the Pflugerville Genealogy Society on this publication.

In 2009, the Pflugerville History Diggers (Audrey T. Dearing, Vernagene H. Mott, Lois G. Shrout and Pamela A. Stephenson) collaborated to preserve the photographic history of Pflugerville in Pflugerville: Another Time, Another Place. This book contains more than 300 images and brief histories of the area.

In 2013, the Pflugerville History Diggers (Audrey T. Dearing,...
