Title
Approving an Education Affiliation Agreement between the City of Pflugerville and the Austin Community College District and authorizing the Interim City Manager to execute same.
Summary
The City Manager entered into an agreement with Austin Community College (ACC) three years ago to allow clinical/practical opportunities for their students by providing veterinary services to our PAWS animals. This relationship has been beneficial to both parties. ACC students provide services under the supervision of ACC faculty which allows them the opportunity to improve their skills. PAWS receives services including spay/neuter, heartworm testing, rabies vaccinations, diagnostic services including bloodwork, and dental procedures. A dental procedure alone on an animal could cost up to, or above, $500. These services are provided to our PAWS animals at no cost to the city.
Ms. Rhonda McLendon, PAWS director, works closely with ACC on this program. There have not been any concerns in the past three years. During the past year, about 30 animals were involved in the program.
The City Attorney has reviewed and approved as to form. The agreement is being considered by the Council at the recommendation of the City Attorney.
