Title

Resolution cancelling the General Election for November 6, 2018 and electing the candidates without opposition for the positions of Councilmember Place 3 and Place 5.

Summary

At their meeting on August 14, 2018, the City Council ordered a General Election to be held on November 6, 2018 for the election of Councilmember Place 3 and Place 5. The filing deadline for candidates was August 20, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. and the deadline to declare write-in candidacy was August 24, 2018 at 5:00 p.m.  Omar Peña is the unopposed candidate for Councilmember Place 3 and Mike Heath is the unopposed candidate for Councilmember Place 5.  There were no write-in candidates. The certification of unopposed status was distributed to the City Council on August 25, 2018.  Approval of the attached resolution will officially cancel the election and elect the unopposed candidates.  The unopposed candidates will take the oath of office for these terms following November 6, 2018 in the same manner as if the election was held.

The supplemental agenda which was posted in Spanish is also attached.

Deadline for City Council Action

Action is requested on August 28, 2018.

Fiscal Impact

The City of Pflugerville will still hold a bond election on November 6, 2018, so election costs will be relatively the same.  There will be some savings as the City will not need to publish a notice of general election.

Staff Recommendation

Approve the resolution.
