Summary
This project includes widening Pfennig Lane approximately 2,500 Linear feet, from Rocky Creek Drive to the Justice Center driveway incorporating a sidewalk on one side of the road (Add Alternate No. 1), roadway reconstruction, curb and gutter, storm sewer, driveways, illumination, signing, striping and other related activities.
Construction is being planned for two phases, allowing construction for half of the roadway at a time, while providing a westbound-only in a one-direction travel pattern for traffic (during construction). Pending award, construction is anticipated to begin early March.
K Friese & Associates, the project’s design consultant, completed design work for this project in November 2018.
The attached bid tabulation shows the bids in which Smith Contracting Co., Inc. was the low bidder with the base bid of $1,499,919.23 and an Add Alternate bid of $117,675.00 for a total bid of $1,617,594.23. Smith Construction Contracting, Inc. recently constructed the first phase of the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) streets improvements program for the Hillside Spring Subdivision, specifically Mill Creek Rd, Green Meadows, and a portion of Bellemeade Blvd. They successfully completed the project within the contract time. Based on the CDBG road project, City staff does not have any concerns working with Smith Contracting Co. on future projects.
The estimated construction cost of this project was $2,012,899.79.
The project was advertised for bids on December 12, 2018. Bids were received and opened on January 10, 2019.
