Approving an ordinance on second reading with the caption reading: An Ordinance of the City of Pflugerville, Texas, amending the City of Pflugerville, Texas Code of Ordinances, by amending Title VII (Titled Traffic Code), Chapter 71 (Titled Parking Regulations), Section 71.05 (Titled Parking Prohibited in Certain Designated Areas) by establishing additional no parking zones on Calply Drive; providing a violation of Section 71.05 is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine in an amount not to exceed $200.00; providing that this ordinance shall be cumulative; repealing all ordinances to the extent they are in conflict; providing for severability; and providing an effective date.
Summary
The City is amending Chapter 71 of the Code of Ordinances relating to parking on city streets by adding no parking zones along a portion of Calply Drive immediately north of Picadilly Drive and at either side of each driveway along Calply Drive. Calply Drive is an extra-wide cul-de-sac road that provides access to light and heavy commercial businesses. As such, a very large number of tractor-trailer vehicles travel along Calply Drive each day. Often operators of these vehicles must wait to access their destination’s loading areas and therefore park along the curb lines of Calply Drive. At times, these over-sized vehicles park in a manner that reduces safety by inhibiting the sight lines of drivers turning onto Calply Drive at the Picadilly Drive intersection and also the sight lines of those of drivers accessing businesses along Calply Drive. This ordinance establishes clear delineation for the safe and appropriate spacing necessary for clear sight lines onto and off of Calply Drive (approximately 100 ft) and into and out of each commercial driveway (approximately 15 feet).
