Summary
This resolution authorizes the City Manager to apply for and accept, if awarded, a Homeland Security Grant Program (HSGP) award for $28,062.00 from the Office of the Governor for the purchase of one law enforcement Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (sUAV) (drone), training and licensing to implement a sUAV program. There is no funding match required for this grant from the City. Approval is also requested to authorize the City Manager to sign all necessary documents upon final approval of the City Attorney.
The Pflugerville Police Department has an increased need of aerial support for incidents that occur within the city. A sUAV would provide aerial support to officers increasing officer and citizen safety. Deadline for filing the application with the Office of the Governor is February 28, 2019. In the fourth quarter of 2019 the City will be notified by the Office of the Governor of the award approval decision. To access the grant funding, City Council must authorize the City Manager to apply for and accept the grant award if received.
