Authorizing the purchase and installation of playground equipment for Creekside Park from Whirlix Design, Inc. in the amount of $147,920 utilizing the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) cooperative purchasing contract (BuyBoard).
Summary
The playground has an existing shade structure over some of the play equipment that we will continue to utilize with the installation of new play features. The playground design includes equipment for both 2-5 and 5-12 age ranges and various play elements that encourage both gross and fine motor skills for children as well as ample social interaction opportunities. The design also includes an additional shade structure to cover the 2-5 yr old play structure.
If staff is approved to purchase the playground equipment, staff anticipates to process the order on 8/7/20 and the anticipated delivery would be the week of 10/5/20 (typical manufacturing period of product is 8-10 weeks) and an installation/completion date targeted for 10/31/20 (typical installation 3-4 weeks).
The playground equipment includes but is not limited to the following features:
· Standard swings & toddler swings
· Slides
· Climbers
· Interactive/educational activity panels
Project History:
Creekside Park was identified as the next playground replacement project by staff and the Park Commission and approved by City Council for the FY 2020 CIP project list. The playground is 21 years old and is in need of replacement due to equipment degradation and safety compliance issues.
Funding for the replacement of the Creekside Park playground equipment was approved as a part of the FY 2020 Parks and Recreation Budget.
