Title

Approving a construction contract with T. Morales in the amount of $71,500 for necessary Electrical and Automation Improvements on the Dunes and Blackhawk Wastewater Lift Stations and authorize the City Manager to execute the same.

Summary

This item provides for improvements to two City-owned wastewater lift stations, Dunes and Little Blackhawk, that are in need of electrical repairs to each of their control panels.  They were both indicated to be in a state of disrepair in the 2020 Wastewater Master Plan and needed to be updated for improved reliability of control and efficient communication.  Currently, neither of the lift stations communicate with our SCADA system, but will be able to with this upgrade.  The improvements will also allow for a more robust alternation scheme that will allow for better pump rotation and more consistent run hours for each station.  This upgrade will also bring both of the existing lift station electrical panels up to National Electric Code (NEC) standards for electrical service including the use of explosion-proof relays and cabinets that are meant for high-hazard locations.  The City publicly solicited bids for improvements to the lift stations and T. Morales came in as the lowest responsible bidder with a price of $71,500. T. Morales has done a significant amount of electrical work for the City and is currently a subcontractor for the Central Wastewater Treatment Plant for the electrical work on-site.  They perform various large and small projects for surrounding municipalities including the City of Round Rock, City of Temple, and the City of Leander.  All work that they have done for the City in the past has been to an exceptional quality and staff has never had an issue in regards to working with them or with the service that they provide.

The funding for these improvements was included as a line item in the FY 2020 Wastewater Collection Department Capital Outlay budget as Lift Station Communications Improvements.
