Summary
This item has been added at the request of Council to discuss and consider action to approve the COVID-19 protocol recommendations for the Deutschen Pfest event and to discuss the feasibility of the Deutschen Pfest.
During the September 7th Council meeting, there was discussion regarding the COVID-19 event guidelines recently released by Austin Public Health (APH). Following this discussion, direction was given to staff to return and present a plan detailing COVID-19 safety protocols for this year’s Deutschen Pfest. In accordance with Council direction, a negative COVID-19 test will not be required for entry and masks will be strongly encouraged, not required. Disposable Masks will be made available, social distancing will be encouraged, and the City will provide hand sanitizing stations throughout the event area. In addition, an email will be sent out to all ticket holders 72 hours in advance informing them that we will provide a full refund to anyone who does not attend due to COVID-19 concerns and/or recent exposure to COVID-19. Also, APH will be providing a vaccine clinic at the event site on Friday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, on Saturday from 11:30am to 2:00pm, and at the Pfun Run on Sunday from 10:00am to 12:00pm. City staff continues to work on obtaining a rapid COVID-19 testing vendor for the event. However, there will be a non-rapid COVID-19 testing site at the Pfun Run on Sunday.
