Discuss and consider termination of the Contract for Emergency and Non-emergency Ground Ambulance Services for the City of Pflugerville, Texas and direction to city staff regarding the same.
Summary
Following approval by the City Council, the City of Pflugerville and Acadian Ambulance service entered into a two-year contract on November 11, 2021 with service beginning January 1, 2022 through the end of 2023. The contracted service area included the exclusive service within the Pflugerville City Limits and non-exclusive service in the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ). In December 2021, the City was notified that Travis County ESD No. 2 would be providing EMS services in the unincorporated areas not included in Travis County ESD No. 17, including the Pflugerville ETJ.
Acadian began providing EMS services in the City in January but has provided notice to the City of its inability to continue to provide services in accordance with the contract without the ability to exclusively provide services in the Pflugerville ETJ.
The City Council monitors this contract via the Public Safety Committee. Councilmembers Holiday and Ruiz are members. This committee recommends the City and Acadian agree to a mutual termination of the contract and to seek an alternate provider.
