Summary
The Travis County Attorney’s Office has created the Travis County Digital Forensics Unit (TCDFU) out of a growing need to provide increased investigative support to law enforcement agencies that investigate criminal activity in Travis County, Texas, and to support the prosecution of criminal cases resulting from those investigations. The TCDFU’s mission is to conduct forensic examinations of computers, mobile devices, and other media capable of storing data obtained during the investigation of criminal conduct. Organized as a task force, the TCDFU will be made up of local law enforcement agencies with criminal jurisdiction in Travis County to allow the sharing of resources and information. The Pflugerville Police Department’s annual fiduciary responsibility is $7,300 and will be paid out of the Police Department’s special revenue accounts.
Participation in the TCDFU will provide the Pflugerville Police Department with access to investigative equipment and staff support related to the examination and processing of computers, phones and other electronic data devices that would otherwise not be available.
Prior City Council Action
City Council previously approved a TCDFU MOU on November 26, 2019 with the previous Travis County District Attorney.
