Approving a Professional Services Agreement with LJA Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $258,460 for design engineering services associated with Traffic Signal System Improvement Implementation projects, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.
Summary
The professional services agreement being considered provides for the design of and future implementation of certain Traffic Signal System Improvement projects. This agenda item is supported by the Infrastructure pillar of the Strategic Plan. All projects were identified in the Traffic Signal System Implementation Plan completed in 2020.
The purpose of this work effort is to improve transportation mobility and decrease congestion along the city’s major thoroughfares. Improvements will also include measures to increase safety and pedestrian mobility by providing pedestrian improvements at these key intersections.
The general work scope includes Traffic Signal Retiming along five (5) corridors for a total of eighteen (18) intersections noted in Attachment A, left turn signal indication modification, programming of traffic signal controllers, design, and preparation of construction plans for ADA compliant curb ramps and intersection pedestrian facility upgrades for ADA compliant accessible Pedestrian signals. The corridor areas of focus are: Pflugerville Parkway, Kelly Lane, Pecan Street, Grand Avenue Parkway and Heatherwilde Boulevard.
The total design duration is expected to be eight months, which will also account for the bid phase of the work. Staff from Public Works and Engineering Capital Improvements have reviewed the scope of work and recommend approval.
Prior City Council Action
City Council approved the selection of LJA Engineering, Inc. as one of the three selected firms to assist the City with the Traffic Signal Management projects and implementation of the Pflugerville Signal System Assessment & Improvement Plan at the September 28, 2021 meeting.
