Conduct a presentation introducing the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) 2023 participants.
Summary
The Youth Advisory Council allows students to learn about local government. Requirements for the program are that the student live in city of Pflugerville limits and that they are 17 years old. The Youth Advisory Council participants will volunteer at city events, tour city facilities and attend various board and commission meetings. Each class will select a class project to complete over the course of the year. The youth advisory council will end the program with a presentation to City Council.
The Youth Advisory will meet twice a month, one virtual and one in person. The virtual meeting will consist of a monthly update for the group and a presentation from the city department of the month. The second meeting will involve the Youth Advisory council attending the assigned departments board and commission meeting. The Youth Advisory Council will also have the chance to meet the board chair and members.
Prior City Council Action
City Council approved the creation of the Youth Advisory Council on July 24, 2018 by resolution.
City Council approved the amendment of the Youth Advisory Council resolution on September 18, 2018 to allow up to 20 members.
City Council approved the amendment of the Youth Advisory Council resolution on August 27, 2019 for automatic appointment of qualified applicants.
