Title
Discuss and consider action to approve the installation of a mural, "Flight of the Pollinator Planes" in Windermere Creek Park at the westernmost extent along Gilleland Creek Trail West on the embankment wall associated with Grand Avenue Parkway.
Summary
From December '23 to January '24, the City conducted a nationwide Call for Artists for the Gilleland Creek Trail West mural(s). In February 2024, the City contracted with the Liza Fishbone, an Austin-based muralist, to design an artwork concept for the Gilleland Creek Trail West - Phase 1 project for consideration.
Artist's inspiration for the artwork concept: “The mural draws inspiration from the intricate relationship between pollinators and Texas plants. Against the backdrop of a Texas sunset, bee piloted pollinator planes follow nectar guides on a whimsical journey towards their Queen Bee. This design captures the magic of migration, explores the contrasting colors in which pollinators see flowers, and references old fairy tales." The artwork themes include pollinators, Texas wildflowers, fantasy, narrative, movement & migration, and community and teamwork.
