Title
Approving the purchase and installation of a new playground for Verona Park in the amount of $149,701.82, and authorizing the City Manager to execute the same.

Summary
The existing playground in Verona Park, located at 19124 Elk Horn Drive, was installed in 2018. This playground was provided as a part of a developers agreement to build the Verona subdivision, but wasn't built to our standard. The playground equipment isn't one of our approved vendors and the shade offering is integrated shade and not 4-post shade structure we have installed in our other park projects.

The HOA inst satisfied with the playground's offering and reached out to the city last year with $30,000 in funding to support an upgrade. There are parkland funds available in that neighborhood zone that Verona Park resides in thanks to the Vine Creek development. The proposal calls to a playground that meets our standard, with 4-post shade and a zipline. That will be only the 2nd zipline in our park system.

The City has successfully lowered the average age of the city's playgrounds from 11.63 in 2021 to 8.67 in 2023. We are currently at 6.00 at the time of this replacement, this playground improvement, with the others scheduled for this calendar year, would reduce the average age of our playgrounds to 4.76 by end of 2024.

This project is being funded with HOA funds equaling $30k and parkland escrow funds for the difference, $119,701.82. This will be purchases and installed through a BuyBoard vendor, contract # 679-22.

This playground improvement supports City Council strategic goals to engage the community through vibrant parks and recreation services, and meets the goal of the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to improve health infrastructure for youth and families.

This item is supported by the {Safety/Infrastructure/Economic Development/Services} pillar of the Strategic Plan.
